Once water passes about six feet deep, bottom diffusion beats any surface device for oxygen. A shore-mounted compressor pushes air through weighted tubing to diffuser stations on the lake bed, and the rising bubble columns turn over the entire water column. That is how you aerate acres of water economically: pennies of electricity moving millions of gallons a day.

Sizing a Lake Aeration System

• Two to three acres: half to one HP rocking piston systems with two to four diffuser stations.
• Three to six acres: three quarter to one HP rotary vane systems with four to six diffusers.
• Six to nine acres and beyond: one HP and up multi-diffuser systems, or multiple compressors zoned around the lake.
