The pump is not very noisy, think of hearing a box fan turned on high. If you cover the compressor with one of our cabinets that can be muffled even further. In fact if you are really concerned about the sound I recommend getting our deluxe kit and selecting the sound proofing upgrade.

No that is not necessary unless the area near your pond is prone to flash flooding. A pedestal is not necessary but you will definitely want to find some type of enclosure to protect it from the elements.
In general, You can run up to 1000' feet with no problem. It has plenty of PSI to make the run. You probably will want to consider buying a larger diameter tubing. We usually would recommend 1/2" Weighted tubing for a 500+ foot run.
Yes they do run hot and they are hot to the touch, I would not recommend touching one that has been running for awhile.
