Cutrine
Plus Granular - Algae is
detrimental to different types of aquatic life and Cutrine not only
helps rid your pond of Algae it also controls it from recurring.
Product also works as a herbicide for the underwater weed
Hydrilla verticillata. It has been approved by the Environmental
Protection Agency for use in reservoirs where water is used for many
applications such as watering golf courses, irrigation systems and
hatcheries. While the use of water treated with Cutrine is not
restricted in its use, some states may have restrictions for this
product. You can contact the company for more information. Cutrine
granular is available in 12 and 30 pound containers.
Cutrine
Plus Liquid - Cutrine plus
liquid algaecide treats against the current growth of Algae and helps
prevent its recurrence. It has the approval of the Environmental
Protection Agency and water that has been treated with Cutrine Plus
liquid can immediately be used for most applications. Other than
chelated copper it is safer and less corrosive for most metals used in
equipment. Water from treated resources is safe for immediate use for
irrigation and watering other plants.
Cutrine
Ultra Liquid - Some of the
more stubborn growths of algae can be eliminated using Cutrine Ultra
Liquid. An emulsified surfactant has been added to Cutrine Plus to
provide more control over some of the most resistant forms of Algae.
Available in a 2.5-gallon container it can be diluted and applied with
a sprayer. Ideal application is 1.8 gallons for each acre of surface.
K-Tea
Liquid - is made of
with a chelated copper base with 8 percent copper, similar to Cutrine
whichi has a 9 5 copper base. There are no restrictions to water use
following application and should be used with Cygnet Plus Activator.
Product is available only in 2-5 gallon containers.
GreenClean
Algaecide Granular -
GreenClean is registered with the EPA and the non-copper algaecide
controls a variety of algae working on contact. It works through
oxidation to provide rapid results while causing no harm to fish or
other wildlife. It is completely biodegradable and leaves no residue at
the bottom of bodies of water as some copper-based algaecides do.
Results will be realized within one or two days. Available in 20 and 50
pound containers.
GreenClean
Liquid works immediately to
rid ponds and other bodies of water of algae. It is a non-copper base
algaecide and is completely biodegradable. Since it contains no metal
there is no metal residue remaining on the bottom and can be applied
with a sprayer. It begins working on contact with complete results
achieved in 24 to 48 hours.
GreenClean
Pro has been
developed for ponds one-quarter acre or larger due its concentrated
level of active ingredients. One fifty pound bag will treat up to 34
foot-acres. Recommended use is 8 to 25 pounds per acre foot every four
weeks as a preventive measure.
Phosclear
- Crystal clear water is achieved by reducing phosphates in the water
and Phosclear, an aluminum sulfate bonds with insoluble particles in
the water becoming too heavy to remain suspended and falls to the
bottom. Ideal usage is one fourth of a pound to 1,000 gallons
of water and results usually remain for up to five weeks. For Phosclear
ro work effectively the water’s pH must be at or below 8.2
before beginning treatment. Four pound jars are available in cases of
six. Also available in a 40-pound pail.
Pond Algae (3 Common Types)
Filamentous
algae is most common,
growing in mats and strings.
Planktonic
algae causes green
water, it has millions of cells that cloud together.
Chara
algae is weed-like, it grows
like a carpet along the bottom.
Cattails
& Other Emergent Plants
- Emergent plants grow
around the perimeter of a pond in shallow water with all or most of
their foliage above water. Examples are Cattails, Bulrush, Reeds,
Purple Loose Strife, Pennywart and Pickeralwood.
Pondweeds
- The pondweed family has over a dozen varieties with these
four being the most common: Sago, Clasping Leaf, Curly Leaf,
Large Leaf.
Elodea
- This plant grows in thick clumps and is usually not a big
problem, the leaves are in whorls of three around the stem.
Duckweed
& Watermeal -
Duckweed is hard to control, it forms a thin layer over the
surface in calm ponds. It will not grow well in
moving water so use of a
surface aerator
will help in controlling growth.
Waterlilies
- Waterlilies can become a problem in many ponds, they grow off of a
large central root system (much like popal trees). Some growth is great
for shade and cover for fish, but when left unchecked they will
overpopulate quickly.
Eurasian Milfoil
- Spreads very easy since fragments of plant can re-root and grow. Do
not try to remove by raking.
Other Less Common Weeds:
Include Naiad, Coontail, Bladderwort, Hyrdilla, Parrot Feather
& Water Hyacinth.
