We offer several different types of pond aerators. Here is a brief
explanation of each style of aerator, which will hopefully help you to
select just the right unit for your pond:
Garden
Pond Aerators - For very small
ponds, such as ornamental,
hobbyist or small koi fish ponds.
Diffused
Aeration Systems - The most
popular type of aeration and the
most effective for ponds that or 6' or deeper, runs on electricity and
aerates from the bottom of your pond up.
Windmill
Aeration Kits - Also a diffused
type of aeration, however
they require no electricity and run completely on wind power
High Oxygen Surface Aerators -
The best way to aerate shallow
ponds that are 5' deep or less. Moves an enormous amount of water
quickly adding an abundance of oxygen to your pond.
Solar
Powered Pond Aerators - These
diffused aeration systems run
on 100% solar power.
Pond aeration or lake aeration is a process that pumps air
bubbles into a pond to increase the oxygen content of the water. This
is often required in ponds that suffer from anoxic conditions, usually
caused by adjacent human activities.
Dissolved Oxygen is a major contributor to water quality. Not only do
fish and other aquatic animals need it, but oxygen breathing aerobic
bacteria decompose organic matter. Pond bottoms of organic soils demand
larger amounts of oxygen. When oxygen concentrations is becoming low
anoxic conditions may develop which can decrease the pond's ability to
support life.
Aeration speeds up this process of oxidizing organic and mineral
pollution. In fact, if there is sufficient aeration, the fish will be
able to survive, where before they suddenly died. By pumping compressed
air out to the bottom of a pond or lake with the use of a diffuser, the
rising air bubbles and the friction caused in the water will bring
bottom water to the surface where it is exposed to the atmosphere.
Large volumes of water thus loose noxious gazes to the atmosphere,
water picks up oxygen while circulating at the surface.
Natural bacteria are stimulated by aeration and circulation and they
will feed on muck, organics and the food that normally feeds algae
blooms or aquatic plants growth. Using aeration and bacteria is often a
safe and sound form of pollution removal.
DIFFUSED POND AERATION
The following are several different diffused aeration kits. Diffused
aeration systems are the best way to aerate, destratify and create
circulation on ponds over 6' deep. Each system has three basic parts.
1. an air compressor
2. an air hose
3. an air diffuser
The air compressor sits on shore and pumps air out through the hose to
the air diffuser located on the bottom of the pond. The result is
thousands of tiny bubbles rushing out of the diffuser to the pond
surface, creating circulation and providing aeration.
There are several advantages to using diffused aeration kits instead of
surface aerator:
1. Electric motor is on shore, not in the water
2. Air diffusers lay on the bottom, ensuring
aeration of entire pond from bottom to top, regardless of depth size
3.With proper sizing, tubing lengths up to 2000'
can be achieved for ponds without electricity nearby
All motors are designed for continuous duty operation and are oil-less
for low maintenance. Periodic cleaning of air filter and replacement of
diaphragm and gasket every few years is all that is
necessary. We can build much larger systems or alter these
kits to fit you specific needs. Please call for assistance. Kits
include everything needed for installation and operation except for
tubing weights. Tubing is buoyant and requires a five pound weight
every 6'-8' to sink or use optional self-weighted tubing.
WINDMILL POND AERATORS
Let Mother Nature help aerate your pond! These wind driven
aerators replace electric units that can cost between $30
to $5- per month to
operate. In only a few short years these windmills will pay
for themselves! Ideal for aerating remote ponds that do not
have electricity nearby! These new windmills are similar to
the units we previously offered, but feature many new improvements:
- Pumps
up to 3 CFM of air - twice as
much as the previous models!5-year warrant on bearings &
camshaft
- Fast,
easy assembly - many steps were
completed for you to reduce assembly time!
- Larger
diaphragm and check valves for
increased air flow
- Patent
pending technology minimizes
bearing fatigue and increases longevity
- Effective
in as little as 3-5 MPH wind
Windmills can be placed up to 1000' away from the pond edge.
This is helpful for ponds that are in low areas or surrounded by
trees. Windmill can be located in an open area with tubing
running to the pond. 72" diameter head has 12 blades and is
self-governing in high winds. 18 gauge galvanized steel parts
will last for years in all weather conditions. Oval holds in
all parts makes assembly much easier!
